District ranger, Mr Rick Hope, said Rainbow Valley, just south of Alice Springs, has recently undergone upgrades making it the perfect place to visit this weekend.
“Rainbow Valley has received some fantastic new facilities, including new walking tracks, BBQ’s, shelters and a new campground catering for increased use of self-sufficient camper trailers and campervans,”
Mr Hope said.
“An entire new campground has been established adjacent to the existing picnic/camp ground, with new shade shelters to cater for lack or natural shady trees, providing a great spot to set up camp for the weekend.
“The new viewing platforms along the clay pan walk and the new lookout at the top of the sand dune are perfect places to stop and enjoy the sunset on an afternoon walk.
“The Parks and Wildlife Commission of the NT is celebrating this year’s Parks Week by hosting campfire talks and spotlighting walks at Rainbow Valley this Saturday night and a guided bird watching walk on Sunday morning.
“Alice Springs locals are encouraged to come down and enjoy the new facilities at Rainbow Valley, while celebrating our magnificent National Parks.
“Rangers in Alice Springs are also offering a variety of walks, bike rides and BBQ’s to celebrate Parks Week; to register for any of the guided activities in Alice Springs, please contact Lucy Barlow on 8951
8250 or Gary Weir on 8955 0310 or email gary.weir@nt.gov.au.”
